The Secret to Success…Self Control!

The most powerful people are not those who can exert control over others, but rather, those who can stay in control of themselves. – Dr. Robyn Silverman – Kapatid Martial Arts’s Child Development Expert

Pleasantville, NY - February 2010 is Self Control Month as part of Kapatid Martial Arts’s POWerful Words Character Development program! Students will be studying, developing and experiencing powerful life lessons focusing on how to successfully build their Self Control.  In addition to all of the physical skills that they’ll be developing this month, students will be discussing and practicing the following concepts that will help them to realize the value and benefit of slowing down and thinking through their choices before acting upon them.  Students will be focusing on the following topics both in and out of class:

  • What is Self Control? Working through problems and solutions
  • How can I get what I need?  Interrupting and asking politely
  • What if I make a mistake?  Apologizing and doing the right thing
  • How do I cope?  Dealing with the temptations to steal, act out and lie

“Self control refers to the ability to stop, think and choose wisely before acting.  People who have self control don’t do the first behavior that pops into their heads – behaviors that they may regret later.  Self control is a vital social skill that allows people to consider the effects of their actions before they take them.” says Dr. Robyn Silverman, Kapatid Martial Arts’s child & adolescent expert, and creator of the POWerful Words Character Development program used at the facility.

Patrick Consing, Executive Director of Kapatid Martial Arts says, “Self control is by far, one of the most powerful character traits that we help our students to develop here…with this skill, our students are sure to benefit both here, at school and out in the real world! We’ve seen that most of the positive role models that we look up to have a very strong sense of self control and we know that it’s one of their secrets to success! We’re proud to be surrounded with strong, kind, talented and disciplined students and are honored to help them develop themselves for a future filled with success.”
