Pleasantville Martial Arts School Teaches Vision and Goal Setting

As leaders, you know that vision is an extremely important part of successful goal-setting. Without vision, the goal simply becomes something you say you’re going to do– not something that has a highly developed sensory component that keeps you motivated, driven, clear and focused.

Joel Barker once said; “Vision without action is a dream. Action without vision is simply passing the time. Action with Vision is making a positive difference.” We must take charge of our futures by creating a powerful vision of what
we want and then taking action on it.

This week, let’s talk about our goals and vision for 2011.

This week, we’re talking about what our goals look like in our vision. Think of your most pressing goal for 2011. What does it look like in your mind? How does that vision translate into action? How does your vision affect you? The point here is to be as specific as you can– not just about what your mind sees but how that clarity and that goal affect how you conduct yourself and see yourself. Speaker, Rosabeth Moss Kanter. said it well when she said, “A vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more.”

How can we inspire others as well as ourselves to choose goals and develop vision that help to develop our character and how we can make the world better– rather than simply helping oneself?

This week, your Powerful Thought Assignment is to rate your VISION on a scale from 1-10, 1 being very unclear and 10 being very clear. How can you develop a vision that helps you get motivated and focused?

“Great leaders DO follow; their dreams, their hearts, and their sense of purpose.” — Dr. Robyn Silverman – Kapatid Martial Arts’ Child Development Expert

September 2010 is Leadership Month as part of Kapatid Martial Arts’ POWerful Words Character Development program! Students will be studying, developing and experiencing powerful life lessons focusing on developing their leadership skills in fun and exciting ways. In addition to all of the physical skills that they’ll be working on this month, students will be discussing and practicing the following concepts that will help them to realize and appreciate the value and benefit of becoming a leader. Students will be focusing on the following topics both in and out of class:

What is a leader, what does a leader do, and why do we need them?

Leadership Skills: Group goals and taking initiative

Leadership Skills: Listening and communicating effectively

Leadership Skills: Weighing pros and cons and taking responsibility

“We all want our children to be leaders instead of mindless followers. We want them to know what they want and go after it– and inspire others to do the same.” says Dr. Robyn Silverman, Kapatid Martial Arts’ child & adolescent expert, and creator of the POWerful Words Character Development program used at the facility. “As a Powerful Words academy, we also want to make sure that everyone– from children to teens to adults– understand that being a leader is not about being closed mined and stubborn but rather about being goal-oriented, respectful, compassionate and open minded.”

Patrick Consing, Executive Director of Kapatid Martial Arts says, “Leadership is one of the primary tenets that we are proud to help our students develop here at our school. We’re really excited about being able to focus an entire month on Leadership…especially since it’s back to school time. We aim to empower our students with the skills necessary for them to take their roles as leaders at school, at other activities, and of course, here at our academy.

Kapatid Martial Arts’ strong curriculum and the POWerful Words Character Development system provide our students with the opportunities to become UNSTOPPABLE in life. These lessons will remain with our students for life and we’re honored to help them achieve the success that they deserve” says Consing.

“People think that the difference between a good life and a bad one is money, luck or fame. But the real difference can be found in one word: attitude..” — Dr. Robyn Silverman – Kapatid Martial Arts’ Child Development Expert

July 2010 is Attitude Month as part of Kapatid Martial Arts’ POWerful Words Character Development program! Students will be studying, developing and experiencing powerful life lessons focusing on how to develop a positive attitude in a fun and successful way that works for everybody. In addition to all of the physical skills that they’ll be developing this month, students will be discussing and practicing the following concepts that will help them to realize and appreciate the value and benefit of being the kind of person who’s positive attitude helps him to become a leader to those around him. Students will be focusing on the following topics both in and out of class:

What is attitude? Positive attitude vs Negative attitude

Thoughts and Feelings: How do thoughts and feelings affect attitude?

Actions: How do people with positive or negative attitudes behave?

Choosing our attitude: Becoming more positive and how changing affects ourselves and others.

“Our attitude colors every part of our life and even when we try to cover it up, it always tends to find a way to seep out.” says Dr. Robyn Silverman, Kapatid Martial Arts’ child & adolescent expert, and creator of the POWerful Words Character Development program used at the facility. “It’s vital that we talk to our children about it because unlike so many of our characteristics, attitudes are in our control to maintain or change each and every day.”

Patrick Consing, Executive Director of Kapatid Martial Arts Academy says, “At our academy, attitude is everything. People are always commenting about the positive energy they feel when they enter our school or meet one of our students…and this all stems from their attitude! This is a skill that each of our students can hone, regardless of their athletic abilities, so it’s truly a life skill that will benefit them for their entire life.”

Kapatid Martial Arts’ strong curriculum and the POWerful Words Character Development system provide our students with the opportunities to become UNSTOPPABLE in life. These lessons will remain with our students for life and we’re honored to help them achieve the success that they deserve” says Consing.

(Pleasantville, NY) – May 2010 is Sportsmanship Month as part of Kapatid Martial Arts Academy’s POWerful Words Character Development program! Students will be studying, developing and experiencing powerful life lessons focusing on how to hone their sportsmanship skills in a fun and positive way that works for everybody. In addition to all of the physical skills that they’ll be developing this month, students will be discussing and practicing the following concepts that will help them to understand and appreciate the value and benefit of showing sportsmanship in all aspects of their lives. Students will be focusing on the following topics both in and out of class:

Playing by the rules: How can I be safe and fair?

Competitors and spectators: How should we act?

Winning and losing: How can we do both graciously and respectfully?

Dealing with the outcome: What can we learn for next time?

“Sportsmanship is usually associated with ones attitude while competing in sports. However, good sportsmanship is important in all moments of competition.” says Dr. Robyn Silverman, Kapatid Martial Arts Academy’s child & adolescent expert, and creator of the POWerful Words Character Development program used at the facility. “Whether its how a child reacts when he scores higher or lower than his brother on a test, how he plays a board game with his friend, or whether he chooses to cheat or follow the rules in sports, sportsmanship is necessary.”

Patrick Consing, Executive Director of Kapatid Martial Arts Academy says, “Sportsmanship is a key attribute to becoming a powerful leader. As our students work on their sportsmanship here at our school this month, they will most certainly benefit here, at school and out in the real world – which is the real goal of our programs. They’ll develop the life skills to successfully build friendships and relationships that can last a lifetime. We’re confident that by helping our students hone this skill, we’ll be helping build tomorrow’s leaders…TODAY! We’re proud to be surrounded with strong, kind, talented and disciplined students and are honored to help them develop themselves for a future filled with success.”

Kapatid Martial Arts Academy’s strong curriculum and the POWerful Words Character Development system provide our students with the opportunities to become UNSTOPPABLE in life.
